One of the main business
Information Systems used today is called the Decision Support System. As
technology grew and information systems did as well, more and more information
was available to companies through these new systems. Instead of just being able
to help businesses manage there companies through inventory control,
manufacturing process, and even payroll processing, the information presented
to companies allowed them to now make critical decisions that effect there
companies revenues, profits, and management. For example, healthcare companies
can use these systems to make the way they treat there patients the most
confortable, and at the same time affordable to their company These systems in
the present day are able to connect executives and board members to each other
no matter where they are, and allow them to share information and facts through
the same system, and then come up with business decisions based on what they
saw. Facts and information, as well as
business models are put together into databases, which are managed by the
software of the system, which decision makers can follow and used to expand or
control existing operations of the company.. The main systems of this
particular system include the input, processing, and the output, which the
system provides the company. The input is collected from all throughout the
company, through different systems, processed into databases, and then shown to
the people who need to see them. This is
the output of the system and this is what ultimately leads to the decision that
is made company wide, and is mainly based on the information that was provided
from the decision support system.
It's interesting to see the applications of these DSS as they become more advanced. I can really see these type of models benefiting the healthcare industry the most, due to the fact that when it comes to patient care, having all available data in the situation can really never be too much. The changes that can come about in this case can be life-easing and pass a stronger savings to the families or caregivers of a patient.
